Quantifiers কাকে বলে?

Quantifiers are words that express the amount, number, or quantity of a noun. They clarify how much or how many of something we are referring to, whether the noun is countable or uncountable.

Quantifiers হলো এমন কিছু শব্দ, যা একটি noun-এর পরিমাণ বা সংখ্যা বোঝায়। এটি একটি noun-এর quantity বা amount নির্দেশ করে এবং noun গুলো countable (গণনাযোগ্য) নাকি uncountable (অগণনযোগ্য) তা জানায়।

Quantifiers এর প্রকারভেদ (Types of Quantifiers):

Quantifiers তিন প্রকার হতে পারে:

1. Quantifiers for Count Nouns
2. Quantifiers for Non-count Nouns
3. Quantifiers for Both Count and Non-count Nouns

1. Quantifiers for Count Nouns:

Count Nouns বা গণনাযোগ্য noun-এর ক্ষেত্রে যে quantifiers ব্যবহার করা হয়, তাদেরকে Quantifiers for Count Nouns বলা হয়। এই ধরনের noun গুলোকে গণনা করা যায় এবং এদের জন্য আলাদা quantifiers ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Quantifiers for Count Nouns are used only with countable nouns, which can be counted individually. Common quantifiers for count nouns include: a number of, few, many, several, etc.

Examples:

1. Many people attended the concert.
   (অনেক মানুষ কনসার্টে উপস্থিত ছিল।)
   এখানে many একটি countable quantifier, যা people এর সংখ্যা বোঝাচ্ছে।
2. I know a few people in this area.
   (আমি এই এলাকায় কয়েকজন মানুষকে চিনি।)
   এখানে a few একটি countable quantifier, যা অল্প সংখ্যক মানুষ বোঝাচ্ছে।
3. He received several awards for his performance.
   (সে তার পারফরম্যান্সের জন্য বেশ কয়েকটি পুরস্কার পেয়েছে।)
   এখানে several ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে, যা অনেক গুলো পুরস্কার বোঝাচ্ছে।

ব্যাখ্যা:

Count Nouns হলো সেসব noun, যা সংখ্যা দ্বারা গণনা করা যায়। এই ধরনের noun গুলোর জন্য many, few, several ইত্যাদি quantifiers ব্যবহৃত হয়।

2. Quantifiers for Non-count Nouns:

Non-count Nouns বা অগণনযোগ্য noun এর ক্ষেত্রে যে quantifiers ব্যবহৃত হয়, তাদেরকে Quantifiers for Non-count Nouns বলা হয়। এই noun গুলোকে গণনা করা যায় না, তবে পরিমাপ করা যায়।

Quantifiers for Non-count Nouns are used only with uncountable nouns, which cannot be counted individually. Common quantifiers for non-count nouns include: not much, a little, little, a bit of, a good deal of, a great deal of, etc.

Examples:

1. I have a little money in my wallet.
   (আমার ওয়ালেটে অল্প কিছু টাকা আছে।)
   এখানে a little একটি non-count quantifier, যা অল্প পরিমাণ অর্থ বোঝাচ্ছে।
2. She showed a great deal of patience.
   (সে প্রচুর ধৈর্য দেখিয়েছে।)
   এখানে a great deal of ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে, যা বেশি পরিমাণ ধৈর্য বোঝাচ্ছে।
3. There isn’t much sugar left.
   (বেশি চিনি নেই।)
   এখানে much একটি non-count quantifier, যা কম পরিমাণ চিনির কথা বলছে।

ব্যাখ্যা:

Non-count Nouns হলো সেসব noun, যা নির্দিষ্ট সংখ্যা দ্বারা গণনা করা যায় না, কিন্তু মাপা যায়। যেমন: পানি, দুধ, বাতাস। এই noun গুলোর জন্য much, a little, a bit of ইত্যাদি quantifiers ব্যবহৃত হয়।

3. Quantifiers for Both Count and Non-count Nouns:

কিছু quantifiers রয়েছে, যেগুলো countable এবং non-countable উভয় noun এর ক্ষেত্রেই ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। অর্থাৎ, এগুলো noun এর সংখ্যা বা পরিমাণ বোঝানোর জন্য উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই কার্যকর।

Quantifiers for Both Count and Non-count Nouns are versatile and can be used with both countable and uncountable nouns. Some common examples include: a lot of, some, all of, most of, enough, lots of, plenty of, lack of, etc.

Examples:

1. I have a lot of books in my room. (Countable)
   (আমার ঘরে অনেক বই আছে।)
   এখানে a lot of countable noun books এর জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে, যা সংখ্যা নির্দেশ করছে।
2. There is a lot of water in the bottle. (Non-countable)
   (বোতলে অনেক পানি আছে।)
   এখানে a lot of non-countable noun water এর জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
3. Most of the students in the class are present. (Countable)
   (শ্রেণির বেশিরভাগ ছাত্র উপস্থিত।)
   এখানে most of ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে, যা countable noun students বোঝাচ্ছে।
4. He has enough information about the topic. (Non-countable)
   (তার বিষয়টি সম্পর্কে যথেষ্ট তথ্য আছে।)
   এখানে enough non-countable noun information এর জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

ব্যাখ্যা:

Quantifiers যেমন a lot of, some, enough ইত্যাদি উভয় countable এবং uncountable noun এর সাথে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। উদাহরণগুলোতে দেখা যাচ্ছে, a lot of এবং most of উভয় প্রকার noun এর জন্য উপযুক্ত।
