The crane and the Fox story: One day a fox saw a crane at a distance. He said to himself. “What a funny bird that is! It seems to be walking on two thin sticks. It is all neck and beak. Head, it seems to have none. In such a head, he must have no brain at all. But, look! How proud he is while walking! Wait, my friend. I shall teach you a good lesson.” With this view in mind, the fox asked the crane to be his friend. The crane did not believe him. But it tried to be polite with him.
The fox invited the crane to dinner and the crane gladly accepted the invitation. The soup was prepared for dinner and the fox placed it in a flat dish. The crane stood by. In the meantime, the fox had already emptied the dish.
Before leaving, the crane also invited the fox to dinner. The fox came at the fixed time and saw that the food was put in a pitcher with a long and narrow neck. The crane placed the pitcher between them. But he could not eat anything though his mouth watered at the smell of the food. He came back hungry.
Thus he realized that the crane was very clever. He was filled with shame. It is nothing but “Tit for tat.”
